Just a general question here i've been wondering for a while, whats the difference in the wrx / sti models on impreza's?

Am i right in thinking the STI is the faster car, while the WRX is more of a sporty family car?

That is all :)

Old school 'classic' WRX STI's are imports, turbo 2000's are the UK version.
Then the WRX becomes the UK spec car with the low level spoiler, WRX STI has the large spoiler (and is the quicker car), which (I may be wrong) has continued through from the bug eye to current Imprezas (these being WRX STI Type UK.

Blimey that was quick

I wasn't looking at any year specifically, did it change?

The differences between the WRX and Sti change as the model year changes.

Essentially though and assuming neither car has had a Prodrive Performance pack fitted - the differences are front LSD, centre adjustable differential on some models, brakes, power, gearbox, suspension, trim and price.

WRX is essentially a detuned version of the Sti, as above differences change depending on model year but include engine, turbo, suspension, gearbox etc etc.
It's a fast car but the term used most often is 'less focussed' ;)

Very nice car if your after a fast performance saloon, however many people (including me) think it will be more that sufficient for them but soon end up either a) wishing they had got an Sti or b) Spend a lot of time and money trying to turn it into one.

So unless your positive you won't ever succumb to 'Sti envy' then it's always better to spend a bit more / get a slightly older Sti imo

I brought a WRX 2003 last weekend with 16,000 miles on the clock for £6250 :D car has had the boost up'd to 1.2 bar, exhaust (1 cat removed) and green filter .... tis rapid! love it so far!

I am going to put a new downpipe on and have it mapped tho! ;)

I'd get the springs and geometry done before much else. :)

God that's cheap!

prodrive performance pack

Takes the power up to approx 265bhp.

I'm likely to chop the Clio in for an 05 revision WRX when the time comes as need to scratch the itch, always wanted one.

Crystal Grey with SL pack please :)

As standard I think the WRX is quite poor to be honest. But that's due to it's weight. They classic had very similar power, but weighed a good 150kg less, so made for a much more rapid and fun machine. However PPP/similar mods really wakes it up :)

always liked the drive of my parents standard wrxs. If anything it offers a bit more than my clio in most areas but is bigger and more suited to my daily drive :)

Plus a remap and exhaust would come later :p
