Hi,

I understand these run 240bhp, and the STI runs 250bhp as standard.

What is the difference between the engines and how much stronger and more tunable is the STI engine (and the rest of the car for that matter).

Will the non STI stand up the santa pod / track abuse well enough as it will be driven HARD.

Brother is looking into buying one...

Cheers.

I can't guarantee that everything I say is fully accurate, but from what I know the STi models all have forged internals, which allows for greater tuning yes. but a 1994 model is not going to be the best for modding at all.
Plus if he does go ahead modding, he will more than likely destroy the gearbox first thing.
If he takes it Santa pod'ing etc, then the first thing to go (when standard) is his clutch, he'll melt it. It really is better to go for a much later model ~1999 as they have a lot of power, and are a lot more resistant to breaking things when tuned!

In fact what's his budget... a 1994 Scooby is going to be worth next to nothing I would imagine!

"Specifications for the STi models can include blueprinted engines, with different pistons and crankshaft, closed deck blocks, uprated close ratio gearbox, uprated suspension (i.e. hard!) and brakes, as well as nice toys such as water spray cooling for the intercooler, and driver adjustable differentials. STi engines rev to a 8250 rpm red line whilst the normal Japanese spec WRX's red line at 7500 rpm."

Can't say I know about the internals much, but I wasn't aware of titanium rods..
