I'm 17 years old and im about to start a new job. I don't have my previsional licence yet and paying for a car and the insurance will take a little time to get the funds for.
So I've decided to get a scooter temporarily so Im able to get to work whilst I dont have a car.

However, I have appsolutly no idea where to start! Do I need to complete a test? Whats the max cc/mph etc that im able to use?

Also, Im not sure what to look for in a scooter... do you have any recommendations?

Any help would be great, as im a complete scooter noob!

do CBT and you can ride upto a 125cc Scoother with L plates, hell you can ride a 125cc motorbike with your CBT done at 17
 
You will need a provisional license for a scooter, and obviously you have to insure that too.

So here's what you do:
Provisional license
CBT (£100)
Scooter
L-Plates
Insurance

I'd say get a geared bike though.
 
Well I dont think my parents like me to have a motorbike, and since it'll only be temporary I'm not too worried to be honest.

So it looks like I mainly need a CBT test, previsional licence, and insurance and of course the scooter and im go :)

Anyone have any good recommendations on scooters? I have no idea what to look for in one :p
 
Marky have a google, loadsa info about them, i know someone here owns one so he will be able to help you out when he sees this.

Im preety sure the SP is 2 stroke and the VX is 4 stroke, 2 strokes are quicker but need a bit more looking after than 4 strokes, they stopped making the SP a few years ago i believe but i presume you would be going second hand anyway ?

Chopper he wants a scoot i think but i am curious on why you recommend the GPR ?

well, you can get derbi gpr scooter 2, but i ride a 50, and my 50cc does go past quite a lot of 125's, the only reason i say get a gear bike so you can keep up with traffic.

I did try and google but it turns out my searching ability is naff :p
 
ive got a gilera runner vx125 great scooters tbh. fast and cheap to run. the sp is just as good will be slightly faster but only slightly but will use more petrol and you will need to top up with 2 stroke oil reguarly. any questions youve got just ask and il try my best to answer

So without further ado :p Here are some more questions...

1. I've been researching the Gilera Runner, and it looks very nice indeed. However, is it very loud? I don't want a scooter that will wake up my entire street :p

2. a.hay mentioned I will need L plates - how long would I need to keep them on for?

3. Im considering maybe a 125cc - whats the maximum speed (MPH) on these babies? :p

Ive been told that the test is just a one off scooter test where you drive the scooter and they mark you down as satisfactory. Is it longer?

Dont know not done a scooter test, but i thought it was a test A or something like that where you pass the test just to ride a automatic bike or any scooter, but still even then you have to do your theory and do some sort of test which i assume is same as any other test lasts 45 mins and you have to do manouvers etc, if what you say is correct no wonder theres so many bad scooters riders around lol

I think you are refering to the CBT (compulsory basic training).

There is a Moped test but you still must complete CBT , the theory test and the practical moped test to get a full moped licence and this only entitles you to ride 50cc without L plates (waste of time IMHO).

1. Most scooters are pretty quiet unless they have had a race can fitted.
2. Until you pass your test.
3. 60-70mph (although I had one that reached 95mph on the speedo and was still accelerating, was modified though)
 
Okay so what licences and tests do I need to acquire to ride a 125cc scooter? One such as the Gilera Runner
