Hey all, took delivery of my Gigabyte DS3 motherboard, and eVGA 8800GTS KO ACS3 gpu

Im a very happy chapy at the moment to say the least!

I ran 3d mark 05, execting 12k+... but i only got just over 10k, this is with the following set up:

C2D E6300 @ Stock (Seems to be running v hot, 60c idle.. this is why its at stock)
2gb crucial ballistix @ 667mhz
8800GTS KO @ stock

Is that score about right? Also, using the latest nvidia drivers (im on XP)

Thanks in advance :D

60c is way too hot for idle, so your core may be throttling during the benchmark.

Make sure the heatsink is seated properly. What make is it, and did you use AS5?

Its stock cooler, looking at getting Acrtic Cooler 7 pro, with AS5 also.

The LGA775 HSF are horrible to get seated right, it doesnt seem to click in and stay in properly, but it seems pretty firm now

Yea even with stock cooler it should not be that hot, I know a guy with an E6600 and with the stock cooler its at aorund 35 degrees idle. As Sir Random said, make sure the heatsink is seated probperly, its either not fully in contact with the CPU or there could be faulty temperature sensors, but I think its just the Heatsink aint on properly.

Well how in gods earth do you get it seated without bending the moatherboard?!

Im scared of bending it to bad and creating a dry break on it.

The stock Intel coolers should snap cleanly into place. Make sure all four legs are properly hooked to the base, and both levers should feel equally tight as you're flipping them over into the locked position.

It's normal for the stock coolers to run very hot at first, until the pad melts and the wax spreads itself. The temps should drop dramatically after the PC has been on and off a few times, but if it stays high, there's a problem.

Well ive only had these temps since i got the DS3 mobo today (could it be the fact the 8800GTS is right next to it?)

Also, when i get the new HSF and AS5, do i HAVE to clean off the revious thermal paste??

Yes, it's vital that you remove any remnants of the stock pad. If you're lucky, it'll stay mostly attached to the heatsink, just leaving some black residue on the core, but it can be very messy if the pad is stuck to the core.

Isopropyl Alcohol is great for cleaning the core.

Okay, well im gettin crap fps, and windows is crawling, i think my cpu is throttling badly...tomorrow morning i will attempt to reseat the heat sink, had a lot of hastle with it before as i couldnt get the clips to go in at all, it just ekpt popping straight back out!
