scotch guard on silk ties?

I have dry cleaned my silk ties numerous times.
1. it costs a lot
2. it ruins the tie.

So I was wondering has anyone scotch guarded their ties?
- what did you use? (standard scotch guard?)
- what effect does it have on the material?

it's more so drinks, but yes you have a point with the bib!

The only kind of drink you should be spilling on yourself is alcoholic and by that stage the tie could be in your pocket.
