Well im seriously thinking of going nextweek, so ive got a rough plan on where im going the satnav will do the rest. I start at Bridgwater, then get to Applecross inbetween ill probably have to spend the night in a B&B/Hotel as its about 650-700 miles. But my adventure (is that the right word for this) doesnt end there. Ill headup to Joan o Groats which is about 250-300 miles. Then at last i head home back to bridgwater which is a nice 800-850 miles. Its probably gonna take 4-5 days maybe longer, depending on how early i get up and how many breaks i have. My questions:
1. How much roughy will this cost in fuel i think it will be about £300?
2. A little worried about leaving my bike outside when im asleep in a Hotel/BB, is there anything i can do, or any advice?

I can't answer your questions but wanted to wish you good luck. Bridgewater is close to me ( I live in Weston) and that is a fair old trip! I assume you will be Motorwaying it allot to begin with.

Sounds like a great road trip, going with anyone or by yourself?

If you know roughly where you are going to stop for the night, ring around and see if you can get somewhere with secure parking. Otherwise bring a chain and lock, and either find something to chain the bike to, or see if you can get other guests or B&B owner to box your bike in with their cars.

Going by myself, the lone rider:D

Good ideas there, ill probably take my chain lock. The thing is, its pretty heavy could it rip through my backpack?

I don't know what bike you have, but any chance of wrapping it around the tail section/ pillion seat area? Or maybe just coil it up and securely bungee it onto the pillion seat? If it's one of those monster chains then it may well be a bit uncomfortable in a rucksack.

I have a Honda Hornet 600cc, i maybe able to just wrap around the tailend like you said either way ill sort something out:)
What bike do you have out of interest?

I was given a Kreiga US10 or 20 when I bought my Almax chain, is a great way of storing what is a mental heavy chain as it just straps to the rear seat using straps going underneath it.

When I've gone away (Wales yay) I've been camping and just left the bike next to the tent. My approach is going B&B/Hotel would be to pick nice country ones and leave the chain! (disc lock though) :)

I might do that Scotland place that last week of April when thingymabob is getting married. Do remember to give us a full report of any decent places!

Oh question 1: What sort of mpgs does the hornet get? I think I remember reading mid 30s but I do like to lie. I'm still very much amused by my F800's "60" readout on the average mpg function!
