HI all,

My old, now my wifes computer, looks to be coming to the end of its natural. It now has a trojan on it which has prompted the review. You have to give it a good wallop on top to open the DVD drive and its connection to the internet is unreliable. Its running an old SP of XP

It has a MS-6777 Mobo and a 230 PSU, 1gb ram. It has an AMD Athalon xp3000+ at 2.16Mhz

Does the Mobo support enough newer technology to bother to upgrade wipe and reinitialise it with Vista or 7 or when you can get a desktop for 250ish (Though 250 is a lot of money right now) with windows 7 that is perfectly adequate for very basic stuff and web browsing is it just a waste of money when its so old and will not be fit for any purpose soon.

Thanks.

Scap.

Sorry, but a socket A board like that is not really worth persevering with these days.

Instead, a cheap new system using this motherboard, this CPU, this RAM and this PSU (assuming the current PSU is not great) would be a pretty massive upgrade. A nice new hard disk like this would also be a huge upgrade and it sounds like a new DVD drive is in order.

Total cost for this upgrade - £217.92 including VAT and delivery (though not including a new Operating System).

How about this ?

Looks a pretty good deal to me considering it comes with windows7

Sorry man, but you will need to remove that link as it is against forum rules.

It does look OK for a low price, but please bear in mind that they are not naming the PSU (not a good sign) and going for a s775 system means that options for upgrading in the future are very limited.

Woops sorry,

thanks, yea might last until I can offord a new rig myself though, then she can have this one. I get her caste off phones, She gets my computers, alls fair in love and war.
