I was so chuffed earlier this week. After 4 years of living in this house, I'd finally got the drive & garage in a state where I could get the car into the garage, look at her, all happy & cosy in there;

All was well, until Thursday night, it's a little awkward to get into the garage, steep slope & slight turn. I scraped the passenger side wheelarch on the metal bit on the side of the doorframe thing;

Bugger! I also managed to scrape the alloy at the same time;

(I know, the wheel nuts need some TLC)

:(

Went and got some quotes to repair the bodywork yesterday which ranged from £100 to £240. The £100 was from this bloke who used to be a mobile repairer, similar to chipsaway, but now has a unit (still uses his mobile stuff for repairs). Don't think I'll use him as he said, "it would be a 90% repair".

One of the quotes was £150, thats to respray & re-lacquer the bumper & rear quarter, think I'll go for that one for the sake of an extra £50. Then it's another £40 to get the alloy refurbed.

Arrrgh, I'm so annoyed with myself :mad:

for the wheel arch scratch id be inclined to get a smart repair,, not point in having 2 panels (most likely poorly) painted to cover that up.

The £100 chap was on about doing a smart repair. I'm totally in 2 minds about it. I suppose I could get the £100 one done, it'll cover it up mostly & then if, after a few months, I'm not happy with it, look at something else then.

I read the thread as "scrapped" as in took my alfa to the scrap yard I was like :confused:
Yep, me also.

Had a quick scan through it looking at the pictures think "WTF?!? he scrapped it because of a tiny scratch and a scuffed alloy?!?!"
Had to go back and re-read title :)

Good idea, shame the wife doesn't agree. We have a 2 week old daughter, apparently she's more important :confused: :rolleyes: :D :D

Thought I'd post a picture of the repair....

Went for the £100 smart repair in the end, well impressed, you can't even tell. Got the scuffed alloy swapped over with a new one I had in the garage that I'd bought off eBay for £20 & had forgotten about, so all fixed :D

I hate to say it, but that paint looks flat, esp on the side long shot... the colour match doesnt look too bad but it needs a good cut and polish, you can see the blend line where the paint merges, almost level with the bonnet of the white rover

Looks pretty good :)

Although it might just be the lighting, but in second picture it looks like the repaired area doesn't have the same finish that the rest of the car has. Looks a bit dull to me.

edit... Doh :(

Looks like with a bit of polish it'll be as good as new!

I've got someone coming tomorrow to machine polish the mx5 and alfa as they are both swirled and I cba to use elbow grease :D

Gone over the car with megs stsage 2 today & it looks better. Going to redo that area tomorrow then wax all over, should look a lot better.

I didn't even notice it at first, I was that happy that the coulour looked the same : :rolleyes: :D
