to sell off... naturally ;)

Can this be done effectively.

The thing is I'm aware as a rough guide the scrappies in Leicester will give me £150 for the car but that's with the wheels left on.

The thing is the tyres cost me about £300 in Feb/March and have plenty of good tread left on and in good condition.

They are 205,55,R16's Continental Contact Premium Eco 5s.

How's best to try and salvage as much money as possible? Should I take the wheels off and put them on the bay for instance, and is there a scrappy around that would come and hoist the car onto the back of his truck wheel-less or will I have to grit my teeth and scrap it with the tyres on?

The car doesn't start (head gasket)

Cheers for any advice!

If the wheels/alloys are in reasonable condition, find somebody who wants to swap their worn tyres and wheels/alloys over completely?

Just take them off and get it collected by someone with a hiab, simple. If you don't mind your driveway being scraped, plenty of scrap dealers would happily winch it without wheels on.

Don't worry about how much they will deduct for it, it wont be much at all.

Most places that you scrap or weigh in a car charge you if it's got tyres on as I think it costs them to dispose of them. I am sure if you call a scrappy and tell him it will be fine if you drive/tow it to him then remove the wheels/tyres and probably do him a favour.

last time I scrapped a car I took it to the scrappys told them I was keeping the wheels and they picked it up on the forklift and I took them off and one of the guys helped and that was it made no difference really to the money I got.

I scrapped a Renault Scenic for someone & before they totally mullered it with a forklift they actually asked me if I was taking the wheels with me.

My old car go dragged behind of a flatbed because he already had one car on the main section already.

The hard brake was siezed solid and the same tyre was completely flat.

Not a single **** was given by that driver.

visit scrap yard for scrap tyres off the same car, take home, sell yours, bolt scrap wheels on and wave it goodbye

When I scrapped my last car, they were happy to lift the car up and pull the wheels off for me. I got nothing for it as I completely stripped it anyway.

you were mugged then as even stripped still worth 100 quid every day of the week :(

Regy53 yes there was a period where cars were 10 pound a ton  and it wasn't worth taking cars in because it cost you more than diesel to weigh in . this is why people started charging to take cars. now even a small car is close to 150 pound with tires on and larger car 175+.

as with scrap metal prices they rise and fall and often crash over so many years.

Not really as they came 20 miles to pick it up! I made back loads of money from everything I sold off it too. Just wanted it gone!

Just got a couple of quotes without wheels on in Leicester,

One £120 and another place £125 ... they'd lift the car onto the truck if I loosened the wheels slightly and let me take them off then.

It wouldn't make any difference to the amount I'd get whether I left the wheels on or not so I'll take them off and sell em' separately.

I think I'd probably get more money selling it all as one on the bay tbh so will do that tomorrow - £0 listing fees tomorrow btw incase anyone wanted to know.
