So i'm sure most of us have this problem with Cd's that have had a prolonged amount of use but some of my fave Cd's have scratches on. What do you guys use? I was thinking of buying one of these machines i wont link it incase it goes against the rules :( but its about £40 are these any good? Hopefully you know what i mean!

I think they are supposed to be good. I just use toothpaste and a kitchen paper towel / soft rag. then wash with water and dry with microfibre cloth. Seems to work, if I had a bunch to do I might look at a machine.

The danger of polishing cds is the temperate that the polycarbonate melts at is quite low and if you melt a cd then the optical properties are lost and it becomes useless.

Rip the CD to .WAVs using EAC and see if it shows any errors when reading. If it doesn't, brilliant! Back the .WAVs up to a CD-R. If it does show read errors take it to a well know rental shop or second hand shop (Can't name names....) They have machines to buff out scratches and normally charge £2-3 :).

I've always just used toothpaste (a standard one - I'd avoid the especially abrasive ones, as I'd have thought they do more damage than good). Clean the disk under the tap first to get dust off. Put a circle of toothpaste around the centre and smooth it outwards (against the tracks rather than with them) and give it a gentle rub. Clean off under the tap and polish with a microfibre cloth if you've got one. Repeat as necessary.

I've fixed and ripped like 20 CDs by mixing a tiny bit of cheap ass toothpaste (the cheaper the better, no fancy stuff in it) with vaseline and then buffing it with a slightly damp chamois.

[edit] ffff beaten
