scratched Windows mce disc

my genuine media centre edition disc 2 has got a nasty scratch on it. doing a fresh install prevents windows loading correctly. the scratch is small about 4mm but it you place the disc up to a window the light shines though the other side (deep scratch)

will MS excange my faulty disc or am i looking at purchasing new.

Dont know how legalities go, but id get a copy of it from a friend, keep the original with you and obviously put the product key sticker on the pc. IIRC the sticker is the most important part, not the disc.

MS will replace scracthed disks for a small fee (about £10 if I remember rightly)

The EULA states that you should not lend the software, which includes 'associated media'. However, it wouldn't be you that was lending the CD

As long as you are licensed I wouldn't worry too much, it doesn't invalidate your licence buy borrowing media.

I will see if i can obtain a copy from a work coleague. I will keep the scratched disc as reference.
