Screen brightness low

My tft compaq tft5015 a5inch monitors brightness is really low. I have had this monitor for 3-4 odd years. I was wandering if this happens to all monitors in time and if there is any way to make the brightness better. I am sorry for this noob question i really have little knowledge about monitors. Thank you in advanced for any replies

hey, my downstairs pc screen is a 5315 no problems i had it for 3 years.. great screen..
maybe its just going faulty?

Its really hard to see the screen during the day, and thats without direct sunlight on it or even the blinds being fully opened...its a pain!
