Hi folks,

Was out of office on thursday and friday, but some wally using my station over those two days left the monitor on my PC on, and for some reason it didn't auto turn off.

So I come in monday morning to find I have a nice set of squares burned onto the monitor because its been showing the same thing all weekend long.

Is there any free programs out there that may help to fix this problem? Otherwise the monitors dead because its distracting to work with as it is now.

Cheers

What monitor is it?

I thought it was only plasmas that were affected by screen burn.
It's called "image retention" in LCDs rather than screen burn (not that it makes much difference), and yes it can be a problem, although not to the same extent as in plasmas. I gather it's usually reversible (unlike a plasma), at least to a large degree.

One suggestion I've often seen is to display a fullscreen all-white (*VA/IPS panel) or all-black (TN panel) image for several hours... I haven't experienced the problem myself, so can't confirm whether or not it works. I guess you could try it the other way around if necessary, or various colours or shades of grey inbetween.
