Hi there guys... im in search of a screen and audo capture device, i am currently setting up a 3ds max video tutorial site and need something of good enough quality to see the text but a low file size and so far i havnt found one good enough... the video's will be from 15 mins long to maybe 1 hour... so i need something good... i have seen some videos that are 1 hour long but only 100 mb... i dont no how this is possible :P well not with the software i have found..

Anyway any suggesions are welcome :)

Thanks a lot.

Sam.

EDIT: Maybe even a good recorder but with a good encoder... any suggesions...

You will need to use tv and connect the pc to a device like a dvd recorder, then compress it. Using screen capture programs while using a program like 3dsmax will result in about 1fps video and incredibly slow rendering, and thats without any video compression at all.

Well that isnt a option for me :P i just need something that the quality will be just good enough so people can see what im clicking on but the file size isnt too high...

I have used a program called CamStudio 2.0 in the past to record hyperterminal sessions on screen. Used it to show switches/routers with hardware problems and then sent the recordings via email to Cisco as proof. Sometimes they just don't believe you unless you can prove it ain't working

It allows you to record to either avi or a flash file.

However, I have only ever recorded a small area of the screen (the actual terminal window) and not the full screen. Plus, i'm unsure if it supports sound or anything.

But it might be worth a look, oh and it's freeware.

Yea i tried cam studio once but the video and sound was out of sync, Anyway i downloaded captivate 2 but how do i save to file as a mpg or some sort of video file... because it only saves as a .cp or a .cptl file... i have no clue how to convert it... help would be nice :)

Thanks

Sam.

Nah, there are good programs.

Snagit will take screenshots and also has the base screen recording capabilities of Camtasia. If you're serious about the videos and want to make them real good then go for Camtasia - tons of options (compression etc.).

If those don't work or make files that are too big for you then you could use Macromedia RoboDemo. Works very well, check out the trial version ;)
