Screen Cleaner

For a mat screen I use windolene clear and some soft tissue. Spray the tissue till its damp then wipe.
Glossy screens are a different game all together and require a lot of hair removal :) As above then polish for aweek with a micro fibre cloth or a glasses lens cleaner.

All best done after the monitor has been switched off for several hours to go cold

Wouldn't suggest that to be honest, the anti-glare coating on monitors is extremely delicate. Windolene is too powerful, and tissue can scratch it off.

Best bet is to use a Micro-Fibre cloth, apply some water to it (so that it's damp NOT wet), rub that over the screen gently and then use a dry part of the cloth to buff up. The micro-fibre cloths will not leave streaks as they were designed specifically not to.

i use glass cleaner on mine.. seems to work okay. not had any problems yet. but i guess if you want to be safe.. use the water and micro-fiber cloth idea.

oh shut up :p Been doing it for years ....litterally. With zero problems.
Bear in mind its the clear windolene not the pink petroleum based stuff.

Still dumb to do and a risk you take.

LCD's are not to be treated as Glass like CRT.

You can get a branded kit for £3-4 that has a brush/Microcloth and Spray of cleaner. ;)

Then you probably killed the anti-glare a while ago and just don't notice! :p :D

Even using abrasive on a glass CRT isn't great as they too have an anti-glare coating that can be damaged.

Several years ago I used to use KFC wet wipes on my work CRT, I’ve no idea if this was a good plan or not but I had nothing else to use and as it was a work one I didn’t care! :D

Again, its a risk you take 1st time you use something that's not made for cleaning screens.

It may be fine or it may attack the coating.

Thats right, exactly, perfectly true.

The OP wanted an opinion on a cleaner to use. Being as I have been using this method for 5 years or more without any adverse effects then I`d personally deem it safe to use.

Thanks guys :)

I did try a cleaner from PC Universe which was rubbish, more streaks than an airport runway.

so it was mainly a streakfree finish I was after.

I tried wet wipe type screen cleaning tissues and they were useless, streaks everywhere. I now use a damp microfibre cloth and cover the screen when not in use. As dust collects on the screen I brush it off with a dry anti-static duster. That way I have only needed to use the damp cloth once in the last 6 months.

some purpose made cleaning cloths are naff, some are good, poached some ones from work and they are great, no smears, no streaks, no smudges, effective and as far as i can tell, no damage to any coatings
