If I just leave my pc running but sat in windows , I turn screen off if I'm leaving it downloading , sometimes when I come to turn screen back on I get nothing , any ideas what could be causing this ? It never crashes in game or when I'm actually on the pc ..

Try turning the monitor on and off then moving your mouse, or disabling monitor sleep mode altogether and just turning your monitor off yourself. It's a driver bug i believe that is under investigation

Ah I see thanks Matt I've tried turning the monitor off and back on n all that stuff I just get nothing , wondered if it was something wrong with any of the components :) my RAM is playing up atm aswell :@

You obviously know a lot more than me about AMD drivers Matt but is this still a problem from ages ago or is this a new thing? I had this issue with my launch 7970s IIRC. Something to do with idle clocks

I had this problem once. I thought it was just a windows setting issue and kept meaning to get round to troubleshooting it. I would just reset whenever the screen stopped responding until one day it wouldn't respond at all. Turned out to be the GFX card on it's way out, and inevitably it failed. I got it replaced under warranty and the problem has never reoccurred since.

Of course it could be something else in your case, but if you do have a spare GFX card, or on-board GFX you could test then it might help rule this out now.

Don't know mate, does not affect me on my 290's. It does happen sometimes on my second rig though which uses a 7770, i just disabled monitor sleep which is no problem for me.

If it's the sleep bug (card failing to come out of sleep) then it's existed since about as far back as 2010 and there are still complaints today about it. If it's just crashing at idle not during sleep then it could be a number of things, driver bug like LtMatt says or faulty card (unstable card at idle voltage).

I have 2 cards in my rig and same thing has happened with both tbh , I'm
Not too fussed as it doesn't happen when I'm actually on the computer lol, just wondered if it was a common thing and an easy fix :)
