I am running the Vista RC2 and so far its great!
Problem is, I've recently installed Battlefield 2 and when I come out of the game and back to the desktop, the screen flickers constantly and I have to reboot to get rid of it?!?!?

I'm using the latest nVidia drivers for Vista from their website!!

Anyone got any ideas???

Thanks in advance...

not quite the same problem and I don't have a solution but when I open Media Centre the screen will flicker. It doesn't happen all the time and it only occurs when in full screen

I also have an nVidia card with the latest drivers so I guess its got something to do with that.

Not sure if this is the same issue but when I did an install of vista and did the nvidia core driver update I got a screen flicker.... it was one of the microsoft updates

had to fresh install as rollback didn't work, after that I didn't apply that update and never saw that issue again?

Sounds like a driver problem. Everything about Vista should be flicker and tear-free once the driver bugs have been ironed out.

why did you say naughty naughty, and where is it coming out on friday, as far as i know CompUSA is selling the business versions from November 30th , not sure who else is selling early though,

Or you can attempt to get Vista Final ( RTM ) via MSDN ( and other places i'd imagine :-> )

RTM isn't available to public - it isn't on MSDN, the only ways to get it are illegal, unless you're a manufacturer. The full version of Vista Ultimate Edition will be on MSDN from Friday ;).

Well its just the RC2 I've got and its annoying!! If I change my refresh rate to 75hz then back to 85hz it fixes the problem!?!?

Is your bf2 set to a different Res/refresh rate compared to your windows desktop?

Please remember Vista RC2 is not the finished product and BF2 was not designed to run on Vista. There are various reasons why it may not work. Like the fact that DX9 is emulated in Vista, not native like XP, different video drivers for Vista and XP, etc etc.

I've had a similar problem since the CPP - whenever I run a 3D app (e.g. a game) I get vertical flickering lines until I exit out of the app.

7800GT and every new drive since the CPP.

Shame really, but to be expected with beta software and drivers.

I get screen flicker on Windows Photo Gallery on Full Screen. Its intermittent mind you, so I expect its a driver issue.

And getting the RTM is no use if all the drivers for Vista are still beta. Fool.

Not true, I work for a gold partner and we have access to download it (although our activation keys have not arrived yet  )

To fix the flickering when in fullscreen bug on nvidia cards (is only present on multi-processor machines i.e. conroe's an P4s with HT), fire up regedit...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Direct3D\DisableThreadedDDI
Change value to 1 (HEX)
if the key is not there, create it (Dword value).

NOTE in vista x64 the keys location is
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Direct3D\DisableThreadedDDI

This should be fixed in nvidia's next driver release so remember to change this value back to '0'!!
