Screen flicker on Samsung R700

I've got a Samsung R700 that I'm looking to sell.
However, it has a problem.
The backlight will often flicker and, more often than not, will then turn off. The only way to get it back on is to close and open the lid.
The strange thing is that it doesn't do it all the time. It will sometimes never turn off for almost a month and then start doing it. It will be dodgy for a few weeks and then go back to being fine again for a while.
Does anybody have any idea what this could be? A lose connection somewhere maybe?
Thanks.

How weird, my samsung Q210 has just started doing this! I just logged on to start investigating this problem. Mine is still under warranty so if I cant find a solution I will RMA it.

I had the same thing with a Toshiba laptop (quite old now), it turned out to be corroded contacts between the inverter and backlight, and just needed unplugging and replugging a few times to sort it out. That was probably because of it's age, but it's not impossible a similar thing is happening to you, maybe a loose connection.

Yeh, I was thinking of opening it up and taking a look at the connections.
Just reall want to get this sorted because:
a) It's one of the most annoying things in the world when the screen keeps going off when I'm trying to use it
and b) I'm trying to sell it

Thanks for the replies so far.

Yes it's really annoying when you're reading something and it goes! You could also need a new inverter for the machine, a popular auction site would be a good place to look for one.

Phazon, I have been having a dig around on the tinternet and it seems a lot of Q210 and Q310 owners are suffering this, Samsung released a BIOS to fix it. I am going to give it a go on my Q210 tonight but it might be worth checking out samsungs site in case your model is also affected

Ok...at the moment I'm trying to get the case off the bottom of my laptop to check the connections inside and see if there is any build up of dust.
I've managed to get the case off around the front and sides but I'm having problems getting it off next to the hinges. There is nothing else to unscrew and I don't want to push it too hard in case I break something inside. It is right on both of the hinges that I'm unable to loosen it.
Can anyone help me?
