Motherboard is some mATX asus thing >_<

Well, let me explain the problem!

I've hapilly been playing Cod4 and almost every other gasme on this rig, but last week during Cod4 the screen just went blank and the monitor Displayed "No signal" :(

It came back after a few minutes, then went again, this kind of repeated itself a bit. Finally it just went black for ever.. So i reboot and i can see BIOS etc but as soon as windows is loaded the monitor "cuts out".

So i sent to gcard ocuk and they reported it was running fine under crysis etc. It's not my monitor because I'm typing from my Laptop hooked up to the monitor.

My only guess is the PSU has gone a bit knackered?

XP? Vista?

If XP maybe try running it in Video mode or safe mode and remove the video drivers to see if that helps?

Safe mode for Vista and remove the drivers?

Just seen above post, but still worth a try to remove and reinstall drivers

Just set it all up, PC is turned on, all fans working etc.

Monitor is just staying black :/

just plugged it into onboard graphics, monitor is working fine loading up XP

Graphics card is either broken and OCUK lied or my pci e slot is nackerd?

OK, here is what I would do:

1) buy a really crap £15 graphics card
2) swap it in
3) See if that fixes the problem
4) If it does, fashion your old graphics card into the shape of a frisbee
5) Use old graphics card as seaside sporting entertainment device, as its just about the only thing it's good for
6) Buy new card for your current PC

!

My only other thought is somehow you've changed your resolution to higher than your monitor can handle (and press return for 'keep this setting') -- hence low-res bootup appears OK .. then hig res desktop cant display on your monitor. Just a guess though.

by the way if the monitor is a ViewSonic I know exactly the problem as I had it myself -- let me know ..

BIOS was set to Onboard so i just sswitched it over.

8800gt is loading up XP now...

Success...

WTF O_O

Has nobody come across this before?

I honestly think its the PSU not giving the 8800gt enough power and it just shuts itself off.

Perhaps you are right, my friend is running an 8800gt on a 380w PSU without any issues though, so it may be a faulty PSU rather than just an underpowered one (though there are other factors involved). I'd test out both PSU and graphics card if possible.

It's all working now, i think i should just let nature take its course on this one.

If it does it again I'll just buy a new PSU!

I got blue screen while playing on my machine, then when it restarted the monitor didnt come up again. I tried several times, but nothing happened. I tried to reset bios, re-connect all the cables and stuff. Still no success...
So I sent the graphic card to OcUK but just as for you, they said it worked fine. I guessed that my psu didnt give enough power to the GFX, so I ordered a Corsair TX 650W. Still no success... So I sent my motherboard which they found a problem with. So now Im just waiting to get it back from laaaazy Gigabyte :(

Ahhh **** it's just done it again.

Going from your post Menta it sounds like my Mobo is the problem then :/

Can offer much other than once when I built pc for in law and it did the same out of signal error after a shutdown/reboot. Thinking back, they updated the nvidia driver and something in that caused it but didnt know the cause until the end of the day shutdown.
Got them to uninstall in safe mode and run with default adapter/monitor driver in the meantime. They werent gamers, so werent fussed for high resolutions.
