Screen goes black when pushing PC

Hi all.

I built a new PC last week:

MSI B450M GAMING PLUS AM4 DDR4 mATX Motherboard
RX 580 8GB
AMD Ryzen 5 2600 AM4 Processor with Wraith Stealth Cooler
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 PC4-19200 2400MHz
Corsair TX550M 80 Plus Gold 550w PSU
Fractal Mini C Tempered Glass case with supplied x2 case fans
I use a 4k Asus monitor.

So when I first got everything going, the screen would go black, the GPU fans would spin up to max and the PC would crash. Updating the motherboard BIOS fixed this.

Since then I have been playing Black Ops 4 on 1080p mid settings and it seems to run perfectly.

However today, I loaded up Alien Isolation. On 1080p it seems to run fine, but on a higher resolution where the PC is being pushed more (GPU fans ramping up), it will go for a few moments, then I get a green/static screen for a second, then it goes black. I can still hear the game for a while. I am forced to do a hard reset.

Today I have also had the screen go black once and come back while watching a video on youtube.

Surely it's not a power supply issue? I was under the impression that PSU was more than enough for a modest gaming PC. Can my GPU be faulty even though 1080p works perfectly?

Thanks in advance for any help.

So idle CPU is 45, GPU 32. Pushed CPU max is 67, GPU max is 74.

Just tried BO4 at 4k, the screen will go black repeatedly, but the PC doesn't require a hard reset, the game is still running between the black screens.

I am not intending to use this PC for 4K gaming, but obviously something is wrong.

Sounds like a gpu driver issue..
Run ddu and reinstall the drivers from scratch
Ye 550w is more than enough for a rx 580 in 4k
Bro the rx580 has more than enough juice for 4k.. just set shadows to medium and turn of antiailising and turn down ambient occlusion a notch..
But ye it sounds like a driver issue..sameish thing happend to the first batch of fiji chips when the gpu would idle, we would get heavy screen corruption

Alien isolation runs sweet in 4k..
That was the first game in ran in 4k on my fury x when i got it.. download some mods for it

If the screen is going black under load it's likely you PSU isn't supplying the GPU with enough power or there's to much ripple on the 12v rail. Those Corsair PSU's aren't to be trusted, they were using high quality designs from Seasonic but these days there using nasty parts from the likes of Channel Well and Great Wall. If I were you I would return that PSU of yours and get an Superflower or a genuine Seasonic PSU.

Oh come on man...
U basically saying
"U can't game unless u get the highest quality components"

Computer parts these days especially ones that require a fair amount of wattage are sensitive to the power that's being delivered to them. I'm saying you need to go out and buy the most expensive PSU there is but choosing a good quality PSU is the most important part when picking components for a new PC. Sadly (and I'm probably guilty of this) a lot of people will buy based on brand reputation and what they think is good rather then actually research what their buying.

...except if the psu has nothing to do with it he's wasting his time and money.

If the OP has another computer he can cross check components with it would make things easier.

It was an affordably priced modular PSU that got excellent reviews, I spent a good amount of time researching every part of my new PC. I didn't buy on brand rep (although obviously I thought I could trust Corsair).

Have tried a ddu uninstall and reinstalled drivers, no change. Thanks for the idea.

Unfortunately I don't have another PC to cross check components with.

Every brand has its share of defective components. If you look you will see complaints about dying PSUs from every major manufacturer.

Those with problems are the most vocal because they are either trying to find a fix or are complaining about it which is fair. But the vast majority who have no issues never have reason to talk about their PSU. It isn't a component that gets bragging rights so people don't tend to post about PSU success stories on the internet.

If it does turn out to be a PSU fault then RMA it. One defective corsair PSU doesnt meant they are all bad. I have a TX650M i bought because of price and reviews and it has been fine with an 8700k and a 1080ti. Hopefully i wont have any issues, but if i do I'll use the warranty and get it replaced.

Saying corsair PSUs aren't to be trusted is just scaremongering.

Some are, I'm sure, but the TX-M line reviews well. So do many others.

I really hope it's not a hardware issue.

Can confirm this issues only happens at 4K, it also occurs during the 3Dmark stress test, when it got to the GPU section the screen just went green and had to hard reset again.
