Screen goes blank after full screen mode

Don't know what forum to put this in, so mods move to a more appropriate place if neccasary.

My problem with my computer is that whenever a full-screen program is exited from, the screen will go black, with just the mouse cursor showing. If I press the e-mail button on my keyboard outlook loads and I can access the show desktop button to allow full usage of the system. Is this a common/known problem?

I'm running at the moment:

Pentium D 920
Asus P5RD2-VM
2GB PQI turbo memory (667mhz)
PNY 6600GT
Enermax 620W liberty
Maxtor 160GB SATA2
NEC-4550 DVD-RW

This a problem with all applications including games. I've tried with several games to use different resolutions and the same problem occurs. Can anybody help?

Is the monitor set as plug and play?

I've found changing to this can solve similar problems.

Yes it's set asa plug and play. i've never seen this problem before. Could it be becuase the board has integrated graphics?

check none of the cables are loose. if not, there maybe a driver issue, or an explorer.exe issue (although that's unlikely cause you can return to your desktop ok). Can't think of much else except to reinstall windows. :eek:

maybe a resolution and or refresh rate problem? though sounds like graphics driver to me. are you overclocking?

I'm not sure about refresh rate, :confused:

i wouldn't have thought the cursor would show at all if it where that.

True sounds like an overclockign issue to me. Try reducing your colock speeds. If this does not work check to see if your card is over heating if it is apply some thermal paste

CPU is at 32 degrees and graphics card is 52 degrees, both under load. All of this is running at stock speed. I just ran memtest however and am getting errors on test 7. I'll try find out what this is as it may be related. I'll try reinstalling windows to just to make sure.
