Was in the middle of playing a game of SupComm with my housemate yesterday, and all of a sudden my screen went "No Signal" and the sound started buzzing.

Thought "sod it", turned off and went to watch TV, tried to boot up today and everything turned on, but no signal on monitor, also wasn't able to turn off using the power switch, had to turn of the PSU. I checked a couple things, unplugged the PSU, reseated memory, gfx card etc, turned back on and got no signal again, and a constant repeated beep, e.g. beep, 1 second pause, beep and repeat.

I eventually managed to get it to boot, by unplugging the ATX connector from the motherboard. Booted into Windows, and it seems to be working... until I try playing something, was playing Evil Genius before, and it did the same thing.

I've done a couple of google searches and couldn't find much. The only thing I found was something about the PSU?

I'm inclined to think it's the motherboard, I've tested with another gfx card, and it was doing the same thing.

Anyway, this is the specs: (it's about 3-4 years old now =/)

Sapphire PC-A9RD480Adv
2GB geil DDR400 something (blue heatsinks)
Athlon64 X2 4200+
Sapphire X1900XTX
Ultra X-Connect 500W ATX2.0 Cable Detachable PSU

It's also running 4 SATA HDD

O/S is Vista business (x86), but I've also checked with a dual boot of XP and it does the same, so I don't think it's that.

Anyone got any ideas? I'm half tempted to just ditch it and spend a few hundred on a complete new rig, but I can't really afford it just now. :(

You reckon it's the PSU just showing it's age?

Has been running fine like this for the past few years.

Will give that a try anyway when I get home from work, cheers =)

Very random... I got a BSOD this time, then it started doing the same BIOS beeps etc.

Checked the error code from the BSOD and it seems it's the graphics drivers.

So... I updated them (was catalyst 9.2, updated to 9.3, the latest ones) so far it's been running fine for 3-4 hours.

Well... wow... that's some crazy breakage from video drivers there. Didn't realise they could screw it up quite so badly. Guess you learn something new every day! :)
