Screen gone FUNNY!

Hi,
Please can anyone help?
My computer has gone funny. Started afew days ago freezing during games and the monitor going in to blotchy colours of red and green and triangular shapes. Now I can not get it start other than in safe mode. When I go to boot it up it starts, but as the white text starts to scroll down the black background page the text is all broken up, then as it starts with the windows progress bar the black screen has bands of dotted green lines down it. aftre a few seconds the computer shuts down. I Have tried loading the latest nvidia drivers in safe mode but this has not made any difference. Is it the graphics card or might it be more serious. As it boots up the screen that comes up with the LAN Party NF4 screen has red dots in the background.
The graphics card is Leadtek GeForce 6800 Ultra
Hope someone can advise what the problem might be...

Sounds very much like your card has died, the artifacts you decribe are a sign that the memory or core is damaged.

Thanks for that. When I uninstall the drivers windows opens up ok. I have tried Nvidia and Leadtek drivers but as they finish there install the computer crashes. Would this be expected if it was my card dying..

It doesn't sound like a driver issue, its a hardware problem I'm afraid.

Your card must've somehow overheated for long periods of time and caused permanent damage to the core or memory as said above. Same thing happened to me once.

Does the fan spin ok and is it free of dust?

Yes the fan spins and it is clear of dust. It is in a void under a computer table, I have noticed it gets quiet warm in the area around the computer case, but I check the temp of the graphics card with the software temp reader that came with it and it never goes in to the red. If I have to replace it is this card worth the price and will I see a lot of difference..

Does sound like a borked card The 8800gts will be a Huge leap and you'll soon forget your 6800 ever existed
