Got a problem with a brand new 15.6" screen I fitted to a Compaq Presario CQ61 laptop. Worked perfectly well for two days but on the third day when the laptop booted up the screen began to dim slightly getting progressively dimmer and dimmer until it is so dim you can hardly see it. Its working ok but it looks like the backlight isn't kicking in. Seller of screen has asked me to check it isn't the inverter first before returning the new screen for a replacement. I have an older Acer laptop here and was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to try the inverter out of it in the Compaq?. Obviously the connections would have to marry up but as far as the inverter itself goes, do they all do basically the same thing or are they different between manufacturers?.

I've done it before and got lucky, another inverter did the trick.
Be careful though, those things can kick out hundreds of volts!

I would not risk it, its very doubtfull the connections will be the same anyway.
^^This. Sadly, the connections were completely different so I didn't bother. Ordered a brand new one.
