I was getting freeze ups in left4dead so i decided to install the beta nvidia drivers . But when i went into evga co tool it was showing 100 memory clock , I clicked apply to apply the default clocks with increased fan *not the oc* and it stayed at 100 memory clock.

I tried the offical new driver same thing , i formatted windows and went back to vista 64. Put on the new official drivers 182.50 and now the screen flicks if i move the evga oc tool on the desktop. It also flicks if im going through foobar or creative software!. Checked evga oc tool and sure enough it was still on 100 memory click and apply does nothing , the only time the apply and memory clocks show correctly is if it goes into 3d mode. But it never did this before , never flickered and if i clicked apply it would apply the memory clocks right away.

GTX 260

While in 2D mode the clocks will be 300/100 and won't change while idle, the overclock settings will be applied but won't take affect until you enter 3D mode.

If your getting freezes in left 4 dead with the 260 the ONLY way to solve it is to run the fan at 100% while playing that game (yes this is not ideal).

Strange because im sure i remember the memory clocks changing when i clicked apply before , but whats causing the flickering :(

You might have had something running like the EA community thingy that comes with GTA4, etc. which pull the clocks up even when the GPU is idle :S

The flickering sounds like it could be a video codec problem.

All sorted! , it was because i was running the EVGA voltage tuner which kept my clocks in 3D. In uninstalling the drivers i uninstalled the tuner but didn't reinstall that hence the panic over the low clocks ;)
