Screen keeps going black.

Hi, My monitor keeps going black when I play World of Warcraft, like it's just starting up it will come up with the monitors logo and such then it will come back on, I can still hear sound and move but the screen is black, this has also started happening when not playing games as well, (It's happening as I'm typing this) I'm able to type while the screen is black, nothing freezes, my drivers are up to date and this computer is only 2 years old, I don't have a clue what the issue might be and I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to computers.

PS: My monitor is quite old, bought it in 2012 so I don't know if that could be the issue.

Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have something else you could plug it into for testing (laptop)?

Do you have another display (even a TV) you could temporarily connect to the PC?

Again, afraid not.. I would have to buy one, however I wan't to hold off on that incase it isn't the issue.. was hoping it be something else.

The only sensible way to find out if it's the PC or the monitor at fault is by substitution.

Does the monitor have HDMI? Could you connect a set top box, games console, Blu-ray player, etc. to it?

Yes it does, I can and have connected my xbox one to it in the past, funnily enough it feels like this problem started when I first started using my xbox one on this monitor, unplugging the hdmi cable from my monitor would sometimes fix the black out's or at least it felt like it did. Now they happen regardless.
