Happy Monday people. You're all an interesting mix of people and experiences, so thought I'd see if we had any people on here who have done screen printing?

My kids (13 & 16) are both keen on getting a screen printing machine to make their own designs for clothes and that. Yea, strange bunch but hey, in a quest to get as many different machines and tools in my house as possible I thought it would be cool. I'd love to have a go.

I have put a couple of things in my basket (the screen printing machine, a heat press and some print frames. I love a bit of youtube, so ended up down a rabbit hole of videos last night :D

Just wondering if anyone had done this before and could share their experiences?

Not with this exact method but would just printing iron on transfers be easier and cheaper? You just buy the transfer paper and print to it using any inkjet squirter printer and then iron it on.

Yea, I could do, but the finish just isn't up there with the screen printing. I figure if I can get them interested in doing it, it'll be good for them to learn that process as well as all the software for designing what they want as well. The randomshenans homeschooling methodology :P

Not myself but knew someone who did, it needed a lot of kit though so make sure you have the space. They had a3 printers to print the templates, lots of black ink, then a UV light bed to expose the mask and a washout station to finish them off. Then you have all the screen printing inks, screens and space to do it all.

Maybe a small vinyl cutter, some heat transfer vinyl and a heat press would be more suitable for at home?

It was only commercially viable to print off quite a few of the same design using screen printing, the more personalised stuff tended to be vinyl (if that matters to them, little hobby business etc)

You can find a lot of info here:

I did hear that printing into paper, reversing it and putting it on with PVA glue overnight apparently works the same as a transfer.....might be worth a try?

The in-law tried it and it failed, so there may be certain parameters needed!
