Screen problem on laptop

Vaio laptop and the screen has gone very dark. Trying to adjust brightness does nothing. Desktop is very faint. What is wrong? Invertor? Help!

Where can I get parts? Not ebay!

Inverter or backlight. Inverter is only like 12 quid and screen about 42.00 on da bay. Would try inverter first. I get screens etc.. there all the time with no issues.

Backlight is the screen itself?

Yes, but its spelt inverter, just in case your searches turn up nothing hehe.

Also of note, they no longer make the CCFL screens for your laptop. If you need to replace the screen (i.e its not the inverter) it'll be cheaper to buy one of the LED conversion models. Seems the CCFL screen when found is over 100 quid.
