Over the past few days my screen has been goin blank momentarily, maybe 1/2 second, the coming back on for approx 1 second and then off again for 1/2 a second before coming back on

There is no deteriation of picture or artifacts during gaming.

It is random when it does it and can be in game or just sitting at the desltop.

Do you think it could be the gfx card or the monitor? Using an 8800gts and belinea 22" widescreen

I'm presuming you've checked your cables are in properly? Just thought I'd do my usual of stating the obvious :p

PK!

Do you get any lag when it happens?

Any other PCs you can stick the gfx card in? Any other sources you can use to test the monitor on?

My office PC was doing something similar over the last couple of weeks: monitor blanking out for a few seconds, then back on again, but I also started to get artifacts pretty rapidly and system slow-downs. Graphics card was swapped out and replaced and all is fine now ...

no other pcs to test on but it has only done it twice while i've been on it today and that was shortly after turn on.

I have another monitor but it wont run at the same resolution so may not be a fair test

I doubt the resolution will make a big difference if it is the card that's going. At least you might be able to quickly confirm that it isn't the monitor that's at fault.

You've not had any other problems with your PSU?

i think he is a full on gamer!

reason being is i think the reason the screen is going black for 1 second is because you are blinking lol

and when your gaming HARD! you dont blink?

thats just my guess other than that i have no clue

hope that made ya laugh!

Try your other monitor just to see (if the problem occurs with the other monitor we can assume it is your system; if it doesn't, then we can test your main monitor a bit more systematically), but other than that I can't think of much else to suggest. Your PSU should be more than enough, assuming it's working correctly, and I would've thought you'd be seeing some other symptoms (either system lag or artifacting) if the problem was your graphics card.

have worked out what it is

Its when other large current drawing things within the house get switched on/off, is triggered by the

dishwasher
washing machine
kettle
my valve amplifier

when things are plugged in closer to it has even more of an effect, e.g hairdryer in the same extension will cause it to shut off while downstairs it wont.

have tried at another house aswell and things in the same socket affect it

Dell tft monitor here has no problems when plugged in at the same time into the same extension.

Is this a problem with the power supply within the monitor? Should i RMA it??

thanks

I would say you deserve a refund - you should reasonably expect to be able to plug other electrical appliances in near it. I have something similar with my ADSL router - if I plug a lamp in on the same socket I lose the ADSL connection :D

Does it also happen with the other monitor?.... always need to replicate faults where possible to ensure the problem is properly diagnosed, if no fault with the other monitor in the same situation, then hell yeah..... chase for a replacement/refund...
