Screen Recording

Hi, I need to make some 'tutorial' videos for a piece of software (not recoding gaming), but don't have a clue where to start. Can anyone recommend some software? Ideally, I need something that will allow me to only record a section of the screen / a single window - I don't really want to be editing videos afterwards. Thanks.

Thanks for all the replies - I'll check out OBS and some of the others mentioned. Unfortunately I have an ATI card, which rules out shadow play (unless there is an ATI equivalent?)
