Screen Resolution Problem

Hi,
So the other day i downloaded the latest nvidia drivers 270.61 and installed them,(was previously using 266.58) when i restarted the comp my resolution had changed so i went to change it back and my resolution was not there.

Its no where to be found not even in the unlisted screen resolutions,
not in nvidia control panel and i can not create a custom resolution through nvidia control panel because when i put in the res i want it just does not look right.

Now i thought this would not be that much of a problem because i have 2 hdds installed so thought id use the other hdd for gaming at the res i want but when i loaded up the other hdd that had also changed resolution without me making any changes or installing any new drivers to that hdd.

So after trying almost everything i can think off
uninstalling drivers, reinstalling drivers making sure the old drivers were completely removed, trying different versions of drivers, tried to change the registry with custom resolution and tried to do a system restore, everything i can think of or can find on fixing this issue has not worked.

On the 1st hhd if i completly remove all drivers and let windows install its own then i get the correct resolution but the windows drivers are naff. As soon as i try and install any drivers from nvidia i lose the resolution i need.

On the 2nd hdd even if i cOmpletly remove all drivers and let windows install its own i still don't get the resolution i need.

I think if i was to reformat the hdds the resolution problem would be fixed, however i cannot format because both hdds are almost full and i cannot aford to lose all the data from them.
It is definitely something to do with windows that got messed up but i cant seam to revet it or fix it and
im all out of ideas and still the problem persists so any help would be much appreciated.

os is windows 7

You mention drivers, I assume you are referring to the graphics card, but what about the Monitor drivers, they affect screen resolutions as well.

Can you use the "Resize my desktop" function in the Nvidia Control panel to create your required res?

Where is {resize my desktop} ?
Do you mean create custom resolution through nvidia control panel?
I tried to create custom resolution through nvidia control panel with my native resolution but it doesn't look right (blurry) and still doesn't help when trying to play games as the games now don't list my native resolution anymore when i load them.
Im thinking it must have something to do with a windows boot file because of the way it has affected my other hdd.
But i don't know, When i tried to change the resolution in the windows registry files it did nothing and when i restarted the comp it had changed them back.
