hey guys, i do leave my system on through out the day, and while i'm not at my desk, will turning off the monitor prolong the lifespan of the monitor significantly over using a screen saver? thanks..

Power it off. A screensaver is meant to prevent screen burn, particularly on CRT's. Leaving it on still draws power and reduces lifespan.

Plus if you have a fancy 3D screen saver you can be chewing up quite a lot of power for no good reason. Best get it to go to standby after 15 mins or similar and dont bother with a screen saver.

Turning off can shorten life as much as it prolongs it because if you use it till it is warm, switch off for a minute then come back and switch back on before it has fully cooled down that can affect the solder joints. Standby is your friend.

hm okie,
so for short time before the monitor can cool down,
standby > turning off

long enuff for the monitor to cool down (hours)
turning off > standby

is this so?

btw if i set it on standby, letz sae i'm watching a movie, will it turn on standby as i'm not making any mouse/keyboard inputs?

thanks..
