If my screen starts spazzing out, and by spazzing i mean you get black and gray line flashing in a horizontal manner rapidly, when browsing the internet, which of the settings below should I look to reduce?

The overclock seem to be fine in games, just been playing BF3 with no issues, spec is:

2500k @4.5 (1.33v with a +0.030 offset)
Asrock Extreme 7 Gen 3
16gb Patriot RAM @ 1600 (I think)
24" BenQ & 22" Samsung (secondary)
MSI HD 7970 TF III @ 1145/1425

Are the lines across your full screen or just within the window i.e if you drag the window around do they go with it?

Full screen on the primary monitor. They were only visible for a little while and I was using the 2nd fine when it happened.

Can I request some clarity?

When overclocking your graphics card, what should you lower when you get game crashes & artefacts?

Am I correct in thinking that artefacts are linked to the memory and game crash the core?

Describe the artifacts? They can be caused by a combination of the core getting too hot, the core being clocked too far or the memory being clocked too far. Generally core artifacts are sparkly. Game crashes could be either. Gpu driver reset crashes indicate core. If the pc freezes up, or you get stripey coloured lines down the screen, memory.

Flashing triangles over the screen and all the other symptoms would indicate I was correct in my thinking, even if it wasn't described well.

Got a screenshot? Triangles could be memory. Failing that try lowering one then the other till it goes away.

No screenshot! It started to bug me so I reverted back to stock speeds. I can only describe it as the tessellation was visible like it was out of sync.

Ok, so I've been using the below settings for about 2 days now and suddenly, while browsing the net, it's done the gray screen again.

My primary monitor is a 24" BenQ 1080p (DVI) and secondary is a 22" Samsumg (DVI), PSU is a HX850 Pro.

Is my card just not cut out for overclocking? My old 660 TwinFrozr was just as bad at overclocking. Have I got unlucky?

Also, if I keep having this issue, can I damage the card?

Firefox? Try a different browser. Then try disabling hardware acceleration. Then report back. :p

Chrome!

I've disabled hardware acceleration for all the browsers used (3) and will see how it goes. The mind boggles sometimes.

My 7970 would only grey screen when the memory was overclocked. Does it happen on flash based webpages?

I was on OCUK.

You could try setting a custom 2d profile with clocks as low as possible in afterburner using the profiles section. Assuming you don't have a faulty card in confident it will solve your issue.

I give up! Cannot be *****ed with this card anymore, sod overclocking. It's testing my patience.

Would it work if I flashed the BIOS to the ASUS one?

I'm also going to try on +20% power, stock memory @ 1050 and core on 1400 to see how that goes. The grey flashing stopped once I rebooted and reset to stock settings and if the mem is the issue, I'll leave it with just the core overclocked.

Would the overclocked memory give much of a performance increase?

Been testing +20% power, 1050/1425 and all seems to be ok so far.

1050/1040 reduces the performance. What would cause this? Mem clock?
