Im getting screen splitting in CS1.6 even with my fps set on 60 (same as my vertical refresh - so it should be vsync'd). Also tried the 3rd party D3DOverrider and forced vsync but it still doesnt help.

Anybody any ideas of what might be causing it? System in sig - using the overclockers value 24" DGM monitor.

Do you mean lines in the screen like sometimes it looks like joins? I get this too with Brother In Arms with my 9600 GT. I would like to know how to overcome this too.

I don't understand tearing anymore - surely it shouldn't actually be possible the way LCD's work but it still does.

LCDs still have to refresh the display. If the refresh happens to be at a time when an incomplete frame has been sent to it, of course you will get tearing.

Tearing is a 'problem' more caused by the gfx card than the monitor - it sends pixels to the screen sequentially rather than in one great lump all at once, so no matter what display you have, you can still end up with a situation where part of the screen is one frame behind the rest of it.

I was getting the same in Bioshock and GoW. No amount of pee'ing about with V-sync/refresh rates worked.

Seemed to disappear for me with an Nividia driver update, but only when going from 169.xx to 17x.xx. There were a couple of updates in between which did nothing to improve the tearing.

have you actually made sure vsync is set to always on? As I have had this problem many a time (mainly with ATI cards). But yeah tearing in 1.6 always been an issue.

the vertical refresh is 60Hz; the game is set to maximum of 60fps. It has to be synced right? Never used to be like this with my old gfx card on the same 24" monitor...(7800gtx) - is this likely to be because of the card has 2 gpu's?
