i finally got my 360 today :D
so i connect it to my monitor (my monitor) and i was playing some saints row :D when I can notice a lot of tearing going on..

i'm playing at 1280x1024, widescreen

is it ment to be tearing or is it just me

Saints Row is one of the few 360 game that suffers from tearing. If you're connected to Live, you can download a patch that allows vsync to be set, reducing the tearing.

Few? Nearly every 360 game i've played has tearing. GOW is one of the few i've played that doesn't. Maybe PGR too.

The rest I've played have and I've played about 25 full priced games.

Does that happen because the game is running at more than the 60Hz that the VGA can display? When you put VSYNC on, you're locking it at 60 frames per second?

I have read loads about this and it seems to be down to PAL boxes using a VGA cable (some reports when using component too but the majority are using vga). There has been speculation that the PAL version of games like Saints Row and Dead Rising were 50hz games and didnt quite manage to "upscale" to 60hz (which the 360 is locked to when using a vga cable). This is just what I have read on an extensive post on xbox.com. I do play via vga at 1080p and notice the tearing terribly on Saints Row and Dead Rising, even GoW but GoW is limited to the middle of the screen (for some strange reason).

Hi guys just a quick question, does this tearing only occur when playing the 360 through a monitor. I am thinking of getting a 360 and will run it on my HD TV with the kind of cash involved I would certainly not expect to have this tearing. Sorry for knowing so little about this!

I dunno what im running at, 720 or what..

How do I find out?

I connected to live, got my free 1 month. ;)

All my games needed updates. Now I got V-Sync option I use it. No more tearing.. little loss in performance. :o

Just to echo what most people have said, Saints Row is the only game in which I've personally noticed screen tearing on the 360.

I'd like to know what games you guys have been playig then because apart from the sports games I've seen tearing on just about everything.

R6
GRAW
Blazing Angels
King Kong
Motogp
Lego SW
Hitman
Gun
TRL

To name just a few that i've played and noticed it. Some worse than others, some in just a few sections but its there.

Rainbow Six
Fight Night Round 3
Gears of War
Call of Duty 3

No tearing whatsoever, was playing Saints Row a while ago no tearing there either, basically never had tearing.

R6 has tearing zoom in with a scoped rifle and pan on some sections it's bad. Not that much screen movement on FN3 to cause tearing and i havent played cod3.
