screens lowest brightness levels still too bright, anyway to make it less?

using a dell laptop atm which has the brightness levels turned down to minimum however im still fdining them tobe too bright whenused at night and would like to lower them so more but unsure how if possible?

is there any software that will allow me to change the brightness levels further easily?

I've got a dell vostro, i can change the screen brightness in the nvidea control panel.

Go to:
Control Panel(In classic view) --> nvidea Control Panel --> Display --> Adjust desktop colour settings. And from here you can turn down the screen brightness.

unfortunately using xp and those settings don't exis. i tried something like the list you gave but nothing i could see to chage brightness, i.e. controlpanel,display, advanceds ettings, nvidea control panel

been a long tie since checked as haven't used laptop until now but a right click gives graphics properties, which when click gives very minimal settings to change, iirc i could change resolution and bit something or other.right click also has a drop down list labelled graphic options but when i hover over it nothing ever drops down, tried clicking but never does anything.

guy above: yeah i have the fn buttons which is currently set to lowest birghtness which is still too high

do you know what your graphics chip is?

for example if it was ATi you could download that ATi catalyst software.
