Interesting one here,

1280x1024 17" monitor:

At 1024x768, everything looks odd but works correctly. At 1280x1024, it is as though that res is too big for the screen (right side and bottom missing) and when the cursor moves to the edges its it moves the desktop over behind it.

I have seen this when forcing the wrong res on a screen but I know this ones native IS 1280x1024.

I took a quick look after a night out (it is a friends) and tried to un-install the adapter / roll back though device manager, neither would go through after 10 mins. System restore, to no avail.

The next step would be to un-install the display adapters drivers through safe mode device manage or add/remove when I next pop round there.

In the mean time, anyone got any idea on the issue? It came around when a desktop wallpaper was changed. Of course I have set this back to blank now.

Thanks

Is the specific monitor driver installed? Not that it should need to be but it might resolve the issue. Is it an ATI card by any chance as I've seen that issue with them before, but not with nvidia.

Are you talking about a kind of overscan? If so i've had that before, my LCD just got a little confused, its got an auto setup button and that solved it in about 5 seconds... Has your mate been messing with the horizontal/vertical options on the monitor?

Dirty dog, I notice the monitor drivers are not on there, I know what you mean when you say it dosen't matter but this is something I will bear in mind thanks.

LeperousDust It is a standard LCD TFT 17" SQ computer monitor with no auto sleep. Tried the auto config hardware switch at the native res an no joy. Thanks though.

I have done a little research into what overscan is and it is definitely not that what is happening. Just thought I'd mention it. Every little detail helps.

The OS obviously thinks the native screen res for that monitor is 1024 x 768 so when you set the higher it's giving you a virtual desktop larger then what it thinks the native is so it scrolls the screen when go beyond the edges of the display.

If the TFT is plug and play then have a look at any settings which might be telling the vid card what the native res is else try removing the plug and play screen driver and let it do a re-install and see if that fixes it.

Have you tried setting the refresh rate to 50 or 60Hz, i've had similar issues with older graphics cards (VGA & DVI) and monitor (LCD & CRT) combinations, changing the refresh rate on LCD screens to 50 or 60Hz usually fixes it.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the advice. It was set to 60Hz. Another one to check out. Thanks.
