Meh....

I'm so peed off right now. I was taking apart my 2010 MBP to put an Intel 80GB X25-M SSD in and a screw got jammed!

One by one each screw came out nice and easy....then the last screw wouldn't budge, I tried to coax it out but it wont budge, it is like it is welded down...now the screw is worn and there's no way I can get it out :mad::mad:

Its a brand new MBP, 3 weeks old, has 3 years HE applecare on it. Will apple sort this out for me? Or will they blame me for their dodgy screws?

It depends, you'll often find Apple being fairly understanding when it comes to this stuff. If you have done it, but it was a result of a fault of theirs, then there is a fairly decent chance they'll help.

Go to a genius bar and explain, they may be able to help... they might not. At a last case you could use some super glue and try to attach a nice lever to it and force the screw. I doubt this will work if you have already ruined the screw head.

I rang up the apple store in the bullring today, the guy told me its not recommended for people to open the case themselves...

I made a genius bar appointment for thursday anyway. Hopefully they can sort it out for me.

The screw head isn't completely ruined, the cross is still there and you can exert force using a screwdriver, it just wont budge at all!

Ok here's on update. Went to the apple store, the guy said I hadn't damaged the screw to badly and managed to get it loose for me.

So I came home, installed the ssd....and now I'm simply astonished at the speed. Boot up time: less the 10 seconds from pressing the power switch, programs load instantly...now all thats left is to check if having an ssd has improved my battery life :)
