Did the title grab your attention :D

My PSU came with an anti-vibration dampener and I wandered whether when you secure the PSU, do you tighten it as much as possible or just enough to hold it securely?

I've been getting a slow rhythmic humming noise from my case and after checking everything in it, the only thing left that could be causing this noise is the PSU, so I want to make sure it's fitted to get the maximum effect from the dampening material.

TIA, dagwoood

Try and find/buy some little rubber washes, should sort the hum out :) oh & the tighter the better.

It is fastened by screws I presume?

Yep, it's fastened by screws. As to the washers, I presume you'd fit them directly under the screw head; ie sits between screw head and case?

EDIT: Are the washers that normally come with a motherboard any good, the thin ones?

Yea directly under the screw head is fine, (you could also use 2 washers one under the screehead and the other washer at the other side of the case) the motherboard ones are like cardboard but you could try them and see if it does make a difference hopefully it should :)

Sounds a little bit odd to me, I'd never heard of "anti-vibration dampener" for a PSU before. Maybe I've been missing out but none of my PSUs has ever had it (that I know of) and none has caused any audible hum from vibrations or anything else.

All I can really say is be careful about overtightening the screws and 'threading' them as then they are a git to take out again, they should be no tighter than you can achieve with handstrength alone. :)

My jeantech PSU came with a think rubber cut out of the shape of the back of the PSU to put inbetween the PSU and case. Works a treat

That's exactly the same as I got with my Thermaltake Toughpower.

I've fitted it as tight as possible without any washers (only got some motherboard ones and as fothsn said, they're like cardboard) and it seems to have done the trick.

Thanks for all the suggestions/pointers guys; it's appreciated

No problem enjoy the new humless PSU :)
