Hi guys,

I have a screwdriver that has always served me well for PC building (and loads of other stuff around the house), however it is now slightly worn/blunt. I think it's 20 years old.

I'd like to buy a nice slim screwdriver for my new build, could you pls. point me in the right direction. I'm not sure what size I need, I guess the same size as the one I have, but it's not marked on it, or if it was it's worn away.

Thanks.

Have a look for the Draper 31 Piece Precision Screwdriver set which you can pick up for around £6 and will cover all your needs.

It's worthwhile if you do a lot of tech tinkering to own a kit. Because I dabble at repairing phones, games consoles etc having torx bits are useful and having the screwdrivers in a multitude of sizes helps too.

For purely working on a PC, a (crosshead) philips screwdriver is all you really need. I have a ratchet screwdriver with a variety of changeable tips that is magnetic.....this is handy to keep the screws on the tip of the screwdriver when securing the mobo for example.

Fantastic, thank you. That kit looks good.

Out of interest how many of you use an anti-static wrist strap. I've never used one, perhaps i've been lucky! I do build in a room with a wooden floor. I don't want to push my luck with my new build though so will prob get one this time.

Yep, I always touch some exposed (earthed) metal such as a radiator pipe every 10mins or so and make sure I stay on the wooden floor and avoid carpet. I also make sure i'm not wearing anything that could generate static, cotton for example. Just waiting for a pro to tell me that my method makes no difference at all :D

I better order a wrist strap too.

just leave the pc plugged into the wall socket, but leave the socket switch OFF.
that way the case is always earthed (through the power cord)

i also have a little set, bought it in a discount shop for £3, and there magnetic as well
