Hi guys, a mate's laptop is giving an error indicating a knackered boot record.

Status: 0xc000001
Info: The Windows Boot Configuration Data file is missing required information
If I do a bootrec (rebuild BCD store) is there any chance she'll lose the data on her hard drive? Should windows just boot straight back up again after doing this?
It's a Sony Vaio running Vista but the hard drive is nigh on impossible to pull out so I'm hoping I can fix it this way.
