Basically our site isnt doing very well and im fairly sure its down to bad design.

Ive only checked the basics as im quote new to SEO but so far theres nothing for keyword density as the meta tags arent filled in and the pages are all flash with no text.

Could someone dig deeper and pull it apart for me so i can get back to the drawing board with the design

Any help appreciated

Site is : www.ramfoam.com

Cheers folks

Not a big fan of all the 'click' and click to do xxx links. Haven't looked at your images sizes, but even on an 8 meg connection there was a definate prolonged pause before the iste loaded. Try cutting them up more, or even better, optimise them fgor the web.

On the news page you seem to have varying line heights for both blocks of text.

I think some sort of footer would help break up all the blue too :)

Personally not a huge fan of the bland grey background, maybe add a simple gradient to add some interest.

Other than that, quite like it overall, due to the simplicity.

EDIT: lol, just noticed you thread title. Ignore my comments as they have nowt to do with what you're asking :)

Get rid of the splash page, it's got one link.
Title for home page "Company - Welcome" tells Google nothing.
/pages/ is that really neccessary? Cut down your URL lengths and make sure they're filled with relevant keywords
Tables are an absolute no no use divs instead
Put your javascript into a separate file and link to it.
As suarve mentioned, don't use click for links. Make the titles the link, the keywords in the anchor text will carry a much greater weight.

The site works, but I get a message at the top of the screen as well.

<%@ Language=VBscript %> <% ' PAGE VARIABLES PageTitle="Welcome" PathModifier="" %>

Firefox3.1

Well the site does work as the poster above says but to answer your question it does not work on almost any front for SEO. Depending on your budget I would do:

  • A complete code rewrite to make it more SEO friendly
  • Include a unique descriptive page title on each page
  • Include a unique descriptive meta description on each page
  • Identify the main keyword or keywords for each page and incorporate the words into title, description, image alt text, h1 and page text to a reasonable density

Once I had got those basics out of the way and I had assured myself that the keywords I had just optimised for were indeed the right ones I would then start my off page optimisation.

^This.

Splash pages suck though, not a big fan of them and they do nothing to aid any SEO.
