Scuffed Bumper worth getting repaired?

Tell us you know sod all about painting without telling us...
At least he'll be happy no matter what.. and fair play to him..

I always think it's a curse that my brain spots imperfections and is so sensitive to colour mismatches etc..

Well I've cancelled the job. I googled half bumper respray and there is a risk that the new paint might not match the rest of the bumper. Therefore it is recommended to respray the whole bumper which will cost a lot more obviously.

Bit disappointed as I wanted it done but its not worth it if there is a risk of a paint mismatch, I'd rather have the damage which only really looks bad closeup.

Is the paint&clear-coat on plastic bumpers the same as the rest of the body - the way it seems to gouge in the 2nd pic and leaves a proud edge, is not something I've seen with keyed doors,
and you really need to abrade that edge first.

(e: maybe it's regular paint, but, plastic is plastic and if you scratch it, can move the material to edge of contact point)

I've used a 000/00 paint brush and clearcoat to paint it directly into scratch after cleaning it with IPA and glass-fibre pencil.

I think it's the same paint used over the whole car, whether plastic or metal. However, I do not know for sure.

180 isn't a half bumper respray as no reputable body shop would either
a) spray half a bumper or
b) do it for that price when mixing paint costs almost half that before even starting to do any work
FWIW, I got the corner of my Merc sprayed for £180 at a small one man bodyshop and it was flawless (I don't use that word lightly either). I can't believe how well he got the paint to match up. He said that if he can't get the paint to match with the wing he might have to blend into the wing which would then cost more, but thankfully he didn't need to.

That said, car bodyshops are a complete roll of the dice - luckily this bloke did some paint work on my old M3 which was spot on so I knew he could do the same on the Merc. Some car bodyshops take the absolute **** with prices though - one local one to me quoted £250 to spray a small piece of trim (60cm x 20cm) which was removed from the car. I told him I could get a brand new piece for £90 and then he started saying "Well, I mean £250 is absolutely worst case, maybe closer to £150 etc etc". I'm not sure what he was thinking the "worst case" was going to be when spraying a small piece of straight plastic trim in black? Perhaps he was expecting the trim to start attacking him somehow?

Got a price for a new white painted bumper, it was £127.05 including tax, part number A4538800170CA8L. I've looked on YouTube at bumper replacement and it looks quite tricky, you'd have to remember where all the bolts came from which I'm not good at.

Not sure the dealer can fit a bumper it may be more of a body shops type of work. I'm waiting for a quote but I might email a few body shops as well in the meantime.

Think you could still be concerned by colour matching - paint, in the field, weathers - UV etc.
(before diddums says you may need some fasteners/bolts in reserve ... )

  am I reading this right? You want a new bumper, which will have mismatching paint, to solve a 1" scratch in the lacquer? Is that what's going on?

Still seems like overkill. Little wet sand and some touch up pens with some lacquer on top.

My parents bought an OEM touch up pen from a dealer with the same white paint code as their car. It literally looks like they used tipex to touch up the scratches, it's so laughably bad I can't believe it's been supplied by the dealer as a perfect match.

I bought some Peugeot ZIRCON GREY Code: KTB Touch up paint 15ml from eBay for £3.95 in July 2014 for my old Peugeot 107 and it wasn’t great. I would assume a manufactured part like a bumper would be much better.
