Sculptris - Amazingly simple program to create 3d sculptures. FREE!

Looks interesting from the YouTube videos. Makes me wonder how long they have been using it to make knocking up detailed models look so effortless.

Can anything be done with the model once it is done, i.e., importing it to other software?

you can export as obj but i dont know if any other program accepts it. Let me try solidworks and 3dsmax 2010

just imported the file to 3dsmax 2010, only half of the sculpture. It was a quick import, i didnt do any special settings so i think that could be sorted out. As for solidworks (my favorite cad/3d program) it just crashed.

as iv said it could be a settings problem. ill give it another shot. The program is still in its early stages so dont expect to much :)

This, is pretty sweet. Very intuitive, even to a complete modelling noob like myself.

here's my 15 min. attempt at a face. Keep in mind I'm not artistic at all, nor am I any good with PS or anything else, so the fact that it even has a nose is evidence of how easy it is to use. :p

Oh yeah, you can turn off symmetry, but you can't re-enable it without losing all of your asymmetric work.

Evening folks,

Been trying this for a short time tonight. It certainly seems very acomplished, and more importantly fun, considering it's been such a short time since it was first announced (although I didn't try the beta). In terms of quickly outputing a sculpt it's great. It's adaptive detailing/geometry cration mean that you're not needing a lower poly base mesh to sculpt on.
My main caveats would be that it doesn't produce animation friendly meshes (although they could be re-topo'd) and that while it prodces high poly meshes, it's not up to the multi-million poly's of ZBrush. But it's free, so absolutly brilliant.
Not had enough time to look at the texture maps/UV's it creates. Has anyone looked at them yet? Are they human friendly, can they be edited further in the editor of your choice, or are they like ZBrushes GUV/AUV/PUV tiles that are machine readable, but can't be worked by anything else.
If Blender could be made as friendly as Sculptris then there would be a free 3D pipeline to create something truly superb.
I know that I have no skill at these, but they are such fun and fascinating to me. It's amazing to see what ca be achieved by people with such talent.

Exciting times.

I'd be interested in seeing what sorts of things people have come up with using this. I'm having trouble making hollow objects atm (wouldn't mind a slightly more CAD style for that. Where is my "extrude" function! :p) but solid bodies are a good laugh. Giving it a serious attempt now, and will give texturing it a go when I've finished the main gist. See if there's a handy hair texture anywhere.
