Today one of my workmates has been telling me about the house opposite where a bloke rented it out to a family of nine. Over the last year the gardens have grown over and the windows have been painted purple! Just before christmas the gas fire had been thrown on the front lawn. He said that the owner had been contacted but he lived abroad but he was coming home anytime and he arrived today. About a month ago the family had moved on and not been seen since. Anyway, I've just come off the phone with him and the owner invited him over to see inside the house.
The first thing he saw when he walked through the front door was that the internal doors, frames and skirting boards were missing. He walked into the front room and where the gas fire was, was now an open fire where they had burned all the wood. They had knocked down the living room wall to the kitchen which was a supporting wall and the ceiling was hanging down about a foot looking ready to collapse at anytime. They went up the stairs and in the two bedrooms that weren't collapsing every other floorboard had been removed for firewood. The bathroom looked like somebody had a dirty protest in there.
The owner has already had a quick quote and to get it habitable again will cost in the region of £40,000.

What a complete joke. Why would someone to that to something they don't actually own, or that they have to live in.

I take it he has no contacts for the people who moved on?

ps. Did you get the 'Dirty Protest' comment from Alan Partridge? :p

lol, who let the place to the hippys in the first place? Should tell him to seriously consider a letting agency to let them do some back ground checks etc. Nextime that is :O

" Dirty protest " originated from the IRA hunger strikers in the maze prison in the late 70's , iirc.

And on that bombshell , goodnight.

Aha. ;)

In 1974 my mum and dad had to go back to Nigeria and I stayed with my aunty (I was 16). They decided to rent their bungalow out and a suitable couple were found.
A couple of months later my 'aunties' who lived opposite the bungalow got in touch and told me to come and look at what the couple were getting up to.
From their bungalow I could see that there were four speedway bikes on the front lawn which was covered in oil and I could also see there was at least one bike in the bungalow.
They eventually left owing my parents a lot of money and I gained access. The bungalow was a complete tip and it was obvious that bikes had been kept in every room of the bungalow and it took an army of aunties to clean it up.
The bloke who made this mess was him -

What REALLY annoys me about this sort of thing is that this surely nmust have been going on months, gradually getting worse. Why did none of the neighbours inform someone, like the ASBO department or the police.

I live in a flat with 5 other homes and one of the residents live like Pigs, pure council scum, the folks above and below her let the MR and MRS fight/shout/scream at all hours during the day and night and they all seem to miss the couples 2 and 3 year olds screaming ALL DAY long. Because Im the only one who calls up (regularly btw) to get stuff done nothing happens, I have even went as far as popping letters through the flats doors with who to call, when to call them and what to say in order to rectify the situation.

Not one of them have been in touch with the relevant departments to complain, although they have been served with the first of three serious warnings due to my complaint logs.

It would seem that Great Britain's no longer think of themselves as GREAT :(
