Hi, has anyone had experience of fitting this HSF to a P5W DH Deluxe. I want to fit the fan to the headsink so it blows across it to the rear of the case, thus exhausting warm air out of the case through the rear fan.

Can anyone tell me if this possible without the fan interfering with my memory modules?
Thanks....

Hey Talkie or anyone else, to fit the Ninja do you have to remove the mobo, I think I've heard this? I'm working with the intel stock hsf as the Ninja was out of stock when I built my pc so I intended to fit it later. As this was my first build I now can't face dismantling the whole thing just to put a Ninja on :D

I know the cooling capcity of the Artic Pro isn't quite as good but I believe I'm right in saying it can be just clicked stright on once the intel hsf has been taken off. Am I right?

Any better ideas for a simple to fit but effective heat sink?

Chris - sorry for hijacking your thread ;)

Hi, talkie and thanks for your answer....

No you don't have to remove the motherboard to fit it, this is the beauty of this HSF...

Chris - you are absolutely right, not that I didn't believe you but I have just checked the Scythe website. I was right, with the old one you did have to remove the mobo, and you are right with the new model :p

"Modified clip makes the installation easier than the previous model! No need to remove your motherboard to install the cooler, simple steps allow you to install and use the cooler without any hassle."

I'm off to order mine now!

Hi, so have I but but, because OC don't do Royal Mail, I've been forced to use a different company.....

I fitted this the other week. It is a barsteward to fit.

The push pins are fiddly if you don't get it right first time.

The fan assembly looks subtley different from the diagram so that you're not sure if you have the right component and whether you should just force it. Too complicated to explain. If it is happening to you, you should just force the wires on and not worry.

I had to move my memory sticks to accomodate the fan.

I don't think the paste is on properly so I'll have to reapply - temps are 48-52 under load and this is at stock on my Conroe.

Basically, I now can't get my hands to the push pins because of the tight spaces.

So hopefully, my GF will be able to have a fiddle with my tight spaces and help me get my temperature down!!

Hi, I'll let you know how I get on when I fit mine later on today. Although looking at the online instructions it doesn't look anymore difficult to fit then a Intel standard HSF...

Hi again, well it's big, much bigger than I thought it would be. I ended up taking out my motherboard tray and removing my graphics card before I fitted it as I thought it would make it easier. However after putting it all together, I did do some trial runs fastening the heatsink first before I used any goop, I found I couldn't insert the tray as the fan hit the case.

Still, after about an hour, it all went in ok, didn't have to remove my memory modules though, unlike you did Marakith, you were right about the fan fasteners look different to what's in the picture.

I'm fairly happy with my temps now though, with a overclock at 2.8ghz Probe is saying CPU @ 25c idle and motherboard @ 42C. However Intel TAT says CPU @ 41 rising to 62C under loard. From the looking at probe it looks like the fan is not being increased in speed to compensate for any addtional heat -

I think I'll have to investigate why that is but any contributions would be of help....

Thanks,
ChrisC

Hi, ok I'm getting a little concerned now as I'm seeing temps of 66c under load with Intel TAT. I'm sure the Intel HSF never got as hot as this. The fan speed never alters, surely it should...

Any ideas guys?

Chriss just try pushing the rev B onto the cpu and see if your temps drop. Push on the screws to press the cooler down onto the board not to hard and see if the temps change?

Hi princejim, good idea and I'll give it a try. I shall attempt to reseat it at the weekend anyway and use the goop that came with it. I may well remove the motherboard completely this time so I check it is seated ok...

seems like you are getting the same temps as me...im using the Ninja Rev.B with the gigabyte DS4. My fan does change slighly when warm but the speed of the fan only goes up to 1200rpm (this is what its meant to do). I was also going re-seat the cooler and see what the contact is like on the silver paste left on the cpu and heatsink. Others seem to be getting better CPU temps with no so good coolers...thats whats confusing me. Let me know how you get on.

No probs, Toxic, planning to do it tomorrow afternoon. However we must all use the same tool for checking the temps of the CPU under load, I suggest the Intel TAT....

Hi, ok all done I think I've identified the issue and now my idle temps are around 40c and under load they sre topping out about 59c. There seems to be better control now of the higher, under load temps, then there was before.

The problem is that the support for the heatsink fouls some capacitors at the top/front of it, see here

I performed this upgrade I believe that this allows the base of the heatsink to correctly contact the CPU.
I apologise for the fuzzy photos.

That's a bit of a worry, i've just bought a p5w and ninja rev B :S

Waiting on CPU and gfx so aint fitted it obviously. Don't like the idea of chopping up the support.

Have you got it mounted the right way round? I made this mistake (very easy to do), but Scythes web site shows how to mount it with a DS4, my temps dropped around 20 degree's afterwards.

Hi, I tried it all ways round, it still fouls the capacitors. You see this quite clearly after making the 'adaption', it sits slightly lower than the top of the capacitors....
