Are these fans any good? I was thinking of getting Apaches, but have found some of these quite cheap and can pick up three.

Its the 21F version:

120x120x25mm

1,600rpm

28.0dBA

63.7CFM

0.20A

Also in comparison to my existing Akasa Amber will these be quieter and cooler?

Thanks, not too clued up on fans any more :)

Pretty good fans, recommended if using on a radiator for watercooling as have better than average static pressure, use 4 of them myself at 1000rpm roughly and they are quite quiet

So putting one into the Tuniq Tower will be ideal?

Also, technically they produce more sound than my Ambers, is 28db much louder than 18?

I reckon you would want those on some sort of controller, be it motherboard based or otherwise. At 28db they are going to be anything but quiet.

As for vs your Ambers, bear in mind the Ambers are rated at 18db.

Although in general the noise ratings don't mean jack as they all use different testing methods, so some that say 18 can be as loud as some that state 20-odd.

EDIT - what I can tell you is that my Noctua NF-P12 fans (widely regarded as some of the quietest around) are rated 19.8db at full speed, and yet they are miles quieter than the Ambers, but even at that, I still drop the speed of them to 7-800RPM to suit my tastes.

Just today, i got 2 x apache, one to be exhaust fan that replaced a silenX fan and one to replace a Scythe s FLEX 1600rmp fan on my cpu cooler.

I can tell you they are very quite, noticeably quieter then the silenx fan, but not much more quieter than the schythe fan. Not bad, but i am definitely going to get fan controller.

Diggsy is spot on with his post, the testing of db levels is a joke and you can find fans that are rated louder are quieter than ones rated at a lower level! Noise is also rather subjective in that what is acceptable for one person is far too loud for another

At 1600rpm you can hear them moving air but no mechanical noise coming from the fans themselves, i haven't got round to fitting my side panels to my case for quite some time and really have no issues leaving the fans running at 1600rpm for benching/overnight stress test sessions and I sleep in the same room.

Would be good for a heatsink as you want a high static pressure to force the air through. I will be honest though in saying that I haven't kept up with all the fans out there and there may be better ones, I'm geeky enough without being able to pull fan stats out from the top of my head :p

If you can get them for cheap then get them. Also advise on a fan controller so when idle you can slow them down. Still some of the best quality fans around.

Sweets, I have an Amber in the Tuniq tower now and then 3 Antec Tri-Cools in P182.

Plan is to move amber to lower compartment and put it on a controller, then get 4 S-Flexs and use 1 in Tuniq (on mobo pwm) and then 1 Intake at front and then 2 for out at back and top on controller (good plan?)

I have seen this:
Zalman MFC1

And was wondering if the Scythe fans would pull too many amps for the controller?

Also, is there a 4 fan version that is better/cheaper? As I am only ever likely to have 4 fans and am unsure if I can close the door on my case with those large knobs. (snigger)

Think they pull a max of 0.25A but that is the 1900rpm one so you would be fine.

I am using a Scythe Kaze Master in my P182 and there is plenty of room though I haven't had any experience with the Zalman one. The S-Flexes from my memory are not PWM though so unless your mobo can vary the voltage as well I am not sure it would work.

Thanks :)

Any thoughts on the Zalman controller, I like that its simple, and just wondering if it was any good?

1,600 rpm? Pfffft, I wanna put some of these babies in my Antec P-180! (on a controller of course...)

^_^

Yup you do! Even on my fan controllers min setting you can still feel a whole lotta airflow. Might even get the soldering iron out to drop in a resistor to slow it down a bit and then ramp it up if needs be. Noise aint to bad though, i'm perfectly happy with it and would put another in the case if I had space.

Ok, the S-Flex got sold, whats the main difference between brown and black Akasa Apaches? The stats look quite similar?

Cheers :)
These the real deal then? (Apart from being extremely ugly) The stats look pretty good and was just wondering if I should go the whole bang and buy some as fans are around for ages and only want to buy once.

Also, one has to be mounted horizontally in the P182, are they suited to this? I know some types of fans aren't.

Yeh my HS wouldn't work without a fan?
Its about having the right direction with fans, obviously you don't want them both intaking and pointing at eachother, or have intake fan pointing at your HSF exhausting.

Anyways back on topic :)
