SD card not recogized

Hi all, got a slight problem, when I insert my SD card & reader into a usb slot nothing happens, I get the noise that you get when windows detects a USB device is being plugged in but thats all.
I dont get the extra volume listed in 'my computer ' like I used to, I've tried 2 different SD cards & I've tried putting the SD card in my printer but it will not show up as a new volume ( my printer still works through this USB port though )
I have also tried other USB ports & I've looked into device manager but it says everything is working ( no yellow question marks )


Any help much apprectiated
 
No it's not SD HC, and this used to work ok, it's not a new card or card reader, somthing's happened to windows & now it doesnt show another volume when card inserted, I've tried doing a couple of system restore's and this has not solved the problem.
 
have you tried going to "computer management > storage > disk management" to see what it says about it when you put it in. It might be corrupt and need formatting

Been to computer management, doesnt even show up
