SD32G2 'grinding' noise - help!

I bought my Shuttle SD32G2 from Overclockers in April. After four months or so it started making a grinding noise every so often on bootup - like a wire was getting in the way of a fan, or something. I took it to bits, made sure my fans were clear. The problem persisted, and someone suggested that it sounded like my platters on my HD might be wigging out, so I replaced my HD, but there's no change.

The sound now occurs every time I boot up cold (i.e. if it's been off for a few hours) and it's duration is getting longer and longer. It used to be only a few seconds, but now it lasts all the way to my Windows login screen. I've booted up with the cover off my box and suspect it might be the power unit.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm getting mightily worried :(

You mean physically stop the main fan from spinning during startup? As long as you're certain that's not going to bust the whole thing up, I can certainly give it a go ;)

I'm not sure about the PSU without taking the cover off - whatever the standard PSU would be for the SD32G2 barebones on here...
