SD37P2 - Little tip for new owners regarding memory installation

Hi all,

My new SD37P2 arrived last week and I built it over the weekend. I bought a pair of matched DDR2 Geil memory to go with it.

The rather spiffy full colour instruction poster indicated how the memory should be installed but it lacked one important detail.

There are four memory slots, in two distinct pairs. Each pair has one red and one black slot. On the diagram it shows two sticks of RAM in one pair, one in a red slot, one in a black slot. I followed this and the Shuttle booted fine, counted the memory and seemed ok. It would start to install windows absolutely fine but would then, at random points, blue screen. This was all rather alarming.

I worked out that the pair of RAM modules needed to be installed in the two red slots (or maybe even the two black slots) for it to work. This might have been obvious but as they aren't physically next to each other and the instructions are not clear it foxed me for a while.

With that in place the Shuttle has worked like a dream. It is very well put together and is very quiet. I'd highly recommend it.

Cheers

I tried running CPU-Z last night and it reported the memory was running in dual channel mode.

I might have a fiddle at some point to see where the error is but at the moment it all seems happy enough. I guess I'm a bit lazy
